They didn't just change Danielle's hair color and style -- her makeup and her DEMEANOR is very different -- her voice is even lower. I suspect they are going to take her character in a "new direction". She can't very well be Reggie's soul mate during his scenes of genuine grief and helplessness, after all. I also suspect she's going to have sex with Reggie as part of that new direction (can't have a ditzy teenybopper having sex, but a more "mature" Danielle doing so might be more acceptable).
