Friday Update March 15, 2002
PREVIOUSLY ON ALL MY CHILDREN
At an emergency hospital board meeting, David tells Joe: "If anybody
signs resignation papers today, it should be YOU!"
Liza, seemingly deranged, shrieks at JR: "I know EXACTLY what you
did, and I'm going to prove it!"
At the hospital Erica asks Kendall: "Please keep what you just
overheard to yourself." Kendall: "To protect you?"
Simone tells Leo: "You could help me, and then you could spend a
night or two at my place until you can figure out what to do next."
Greenlee tells Derek: "Read him [Roger] his rights! I want to tell
the DA I'll testify against him!"
LOFT BUILDING
Leo helps Simone move into her new loft. As they ride the elevator,
Simone comments on his ability to be so laid back considering he's
moving into the same building as Greenlee. He says it's her couch or
a park bench -- he doesn't have much choice. He'll run into Greenlee
sooner or later and he doesn't give a damn if it's there or someplace
else.
Simone laughs at all the stuff they are moving into a loft that she
totally cannot afford. Leo says it sounds like HIS life. She laments
signing a lease when she still had a job at Tempo -- she even borrowed
money from her father for the deposit and set up a 6-month payback
plan. Leo admires her for being so responsible. She says that's
fine, but if she doesn't come up with a fast way to make some money,
she'll be asking him to help her move stuff OUT of there next month.
Leo says she's a writer, right? So write. She says the trick is
getting people to PAY you to write. Brooke and Edmund are wonderful
to let her stay on and FREELANCE at Tempo, considering she practically
got people KILLED and wound up stupidly feeding information to
Proteus. Leo grimaces and carries another box into the elevator.
Simone belatedly remembers that his mother is Proteus. Leo tells her
not to worry. Besides, she investigated his mother and fell for a con
because she wanted to get a book deal, right? She agrees, but says a
6-figure book deal doesn't just fall out of the sky. Besides, she
doesn't have a book to sell. Leo: "Yet." She has doubts she could
even write one. Leo tells her to do a "60 Minutes" on Mateo, then
start in on the other players. What has she got to lose? She bestows
a BIG smile upon him.
SOS
Greenlee rushes into SOS looking for Mateo, but is informed that Mateo
and Hayley are on vacation [THANK GOD!] She asks if someone else came
in looking for him -- a guy in his early 50s. Roger turns around on
his barstool across the bar and says hello. Apparently the police
told her he'd be there. Roger, looking remarkably refreshed [I wasn't
even sure it was him -- IS it him?], asks if she's going to start
screaming again.
Roger offers Greenlee a drink, assuring her he's drinking club soda.
Greenlee asks how he got out of jail. He is surprised -- he thought
SHE paid his bail. She says he was gone by the time she got there.
He says some attorney he'd never heard of before paid the bail -- he
just assumed that the only person who would do that for him would be
her. Greenlee hugs him and says she's so glad she found him. He
starts to apologize for his Proteus connection, but she stops him.
She says Mateo explained the part about how Proteus would threaten to
hurt people and DID threaten to kill Mateo's children if he didn't
follow orders. She knows Roger did it because he was protecting her
from murderers. Roger sighs and tries to say something, but she says
she owes him SO MUCH and just wants to make up for all the terrible
things she said to him. He caresses her face and says he just doesn't
want her to be hurt anymore. She gives a sad smile and says they've
lost so much time. Roger seems to be drinking in her face as he pets
her hair and says he doesn't know what he would have done if Vanessa
had done anything to her. Roger huskily says: "You're still my
little girl. You always will be!" Greenlee smiles her thanks. He
says he knows he's screwed it up every single time he's tried, but he
would like to be a father to her. They hug. [I suspect that if he's
on the level his days must be numbered]
Greenlee says she'll help him get cleared of all the charges they
might have against him because he was a VICTIM. She's not going to
lose him again -- she's been running around town for the last 24 hours
feeling lost and alone and like there is nothing to hold onto. She
would have grabbed at ANYTHING. Greenlee: "Then I found you here,
and -- so much better than what I thought I wanted." He's sorry about
her problems with Jake and Leo. Roger: "You know, I'm a couple of
beats behind here. Which one didn't you want to lose?" She looks very
unhappy, then says she doesn't want to talk about it. We hear a truly
evil-sounding cackle that sounds like it's coming through
loudspeakers. Why it's Simone -- with Leo! Simone laughs some more
and playfully slaps at Leo. [What the HELL is she doing at SOS where
she is SOOOO persona non grata, even if H&M ARE on vacation?]
Greenlee grimly watches. Leo spots her and just keeps laughing.
PV HOSPITAL
Kendall tells Erica that she HAS to trust her -- she doesn't have much
choice. Erica: "Trust you? Only if I had lost my MIND." Kendall
points out that that's the way to shoot herself in the foot, NOT get
her cooperation. Erica begs Kendall not to tell Chris that she was
the one who brought Dr. Stannart on board to treat him, and not to
jeopardize Chris' recovery just because she wants to get even with
her. Kendall stares, turns up her nose and stomps away. Erica
swears (in her head, but it's pretty clear) and follows, saying:
"Don't!"
Liza bursts through a door [I think she ran up the stairs] and wildly
tells a nurse that she needs help -- THIS YEAR!!! There are dark
circles under her eyes. The ER sent her up there because they said
she could get her test results there faster. She frantically says it
was a test for drugs -- someone put something into her tea and she
needs to know what it was!
At the hospital board meeting, David waves a list of all of Joe's
visits to his cardiologist since he had his heart attack and a
recommendation from his doctor to cut back on his workload. Then he
shows a duty roster showing that Joe HAS been cutting down on his
hours, but he's been delegating his workload to the staff since
Christmas of last year. He's taken 11 personal and sick days since
January. Jake stands and righteously points out how unethical David
is being by going into medical records that he has no right to see.
David responds by pointing out that JAKE was more than a little
unethical when he broke into not one, but TWO of David's offices and
reading HIS own personal files! Jake continues down his righteous
path, saying HE can EXPLAIN why HE did it! David: "And *I* can, too.
When *I* do it, it's unethical. When *YOU* do it, you get a free
pass!" [TESTIFY!] Jake yells that what David is doing there is just
further indication that he's unfit to work at the hospital. [I
thought he was INVITED to the meeting :-)] David: "Oh, please,
please -- just spare me the self-righteous lecture, ok? What I'm
indicating here is that Dr. Martin has been colluding with his staff
to keep his heart condition under wraps." Jake yells, slams his fist
on the table, and defends his father. Palmer stands and firmly tells
Jake to calm down. David says he doesn't give a damn if Jake thinks
his father walks on water -- he is no longer equipped to run this
hospital! Joe finally speaks up and calmly, but challengingly asks
David what he wants. David says he wants Joe's job. Joe smiles and
nods condescendingly, having known that all along [since when has it
been a secret?]
Jake yells that he always knew David was arrogant and gutless, but
THIS is outrageous! David says that they are trying to hold HIM
accountable for his MOTHER'S actions without even looking at the
facts. An unnamed board member points out that his mother DID further
his career with her money. David asks if they are ready to then
denigrate everything he's done and all his hard work because,
unbeknownst to him, his mother funded him with drug money. He says
he's spent every day for the last four years in the OR saving lives
[EVERY day -- oh PUH-LEASE!], and his research, surgical procedures
and new drug treatments are what have given PVH such a high profile!
Jake scoffs: "Wait, wait, wait! Is there anything that you HAVEN'T
taken credit for?" David says he KNOWS he's not LIKED -- people have
attacked him his entire life because he's ambitious and successful.
Jake: "And a FELON!" David continues to hammer home the SAVING LIVES
aspect of not only his, but ALL their jobs and reiterates that while
Joe is passing on his workload and taking sick days, DAVID is SAVING
LIVES every day. Jake jabs a finger at him and tells him to go to
HELL. David says Joe hasn't even MENTIONED the fact that one of the
board members is actually MARRIED to the international drug
trafficker. Jake: "Who happens to be your MOTHER, FOR GOD'S SAKE!"
David says Joe and his sons have launched an attack on him for YEARS,
simply because they don't like him or his style. David goes back to
himself SAVING LIVES and that being what the hospital it all about.
Jake says the hospital is that way because of his father and starts to
go off on David again. Joe holds up a hand and tells him to settle
down. Joe sniffs and nods and concedes that David has a point. David
stares.
Erica walks into Chris' room and is surprised that Kendall is not
there. Chris ignores her question and says he thought he made it
clear he didn't want to talk to her. She says he made himself very
clear, and after he hears what she has to say, he'll probably never
want to speak to her again [then he HASN'T made himself clear]. She
has nothing to lose. He scoffs at her actually being about to say
something TRUTHFUL. She tells him not to be like that. He digs at
her some more. She admits that SHE is the one who contacted Dr.
Stannart in Geneva and had him flown there; she paid his way, made all
the arrangements, and asked the doctor not to tell him what she did.
[A blindingly bright light is now shining on Chris in his hospital bed
-- someone must have got a deal on 100,000 watt light bulbs at Price
Club -- I think Chris is actually getting a sunburn] Chris is not
particularly surprised by her admission, since he EXPECTS her to be
devious and manipulative to get whatever she wants. She yells at him
to WAIT A MINUTE -- the last time she looked, he moved his legs and he
had a good prognosis. If he would stop hanging out in bed, feeling
sorry for himself and actually get himself to Rehab-- Chris denies
feeling sorry for himself. She says of COURSE he is, and he owes her
a HUGE thank you! She is still waiting for it. He says he's still
waiting for the REAL reason she came there to come clean with him.
Erica explains about Kendall finding out and says she didn't want him
caught up in some kind of revenge battle. He laughs and says that is
WASN'T about coming there to tell the truth, then. She is indignant
and says of COURSE it is -- she just told him the truth, didn't she?
And who CARES? He wants to WALK, doesn't he? Chris: "Yes, I want to
walk. But if I wanted your help, I --" Erica: "You never would have
asked me for it. So I gave it to you anyway, ok? So sue me. I mean,
sometimes people do that. They don't wait to be asked for help, they
just GIVE it." He tries to sidestep (so to speak) the issue and focus
on HOW she ended up telling him the truth, saying she does whatever it
takes to get what she wants. She says it was for his OWN GOOD! He
says that's not her decision to make. So he wishes she hadn't done
it? He says she's not LISTENING. Erica says that closing himself off
to someone who is trying to help him is a good way to end up alone.
Ask Ryan! Chris bristles and warns her not to bring Ryan into this.
Erica: "No, you take a good look at him, Chris, because that is ONE
apple that fell DIRECTLY next to the tree." He accuses her of being a
bad judge of character when it comes to kids -- she was scared to
death that Kendall was going to come over and rat her out, but she
DIDN'T. Erica swallows and says Kendall COULD have. Chris badgers
her to admit that she's WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! Erica stares at him for
a moment, then flounces out, stopping to stare again at the door
before clopping away. [For reference purposes, Chris is in room 17]
Chris throws up an arm and puffs in what appears to be an I-am-SUCH-
an-IDIOT manner.
MYRTLE'S HOUSE
Kendall, standing in BLINDINGLY bright light [see above re Price
Club], knocks at Myrtle's door. We can tell it's morning because
there are birds singing. Myrtle reluctantly lets her in. Kendall is
being very sincere and human-like in all her scenes at Myrtle's house.
Kendall tells Myrtle that Chris will be released from the hospital any
day now and will need some help, but he's so retro macho he'd rather
have a root canal than ask for help. Myrtle agrees and asks what that
has to do with Kendall. Kendall says they've done a little bonding.
Myrtle is incredulous: "You and CHRIS?" Kendall says she got Chris
to lighten up a little and she's GOOD for him. Myrtle doubts Kendall
is doing it out of the goodness of her heart. Kendall says she's
close with Ryan and they both assert that Chris is Ryan's father.
Kendall says the plan is for her to go undercover and watch out for
him so that he won't know he's getting help he didn't ask for. Bianca
walks in from an inner door and hears that last part, then backs
slowly out so she can eavesdrop. Kendall says there are hospital
types who can help him with his rehab, but he'll need someone to run
errands, etc., and she DOES make him laugh. She earnestly asks Myrtle
what she thinks. Myrtle says she thinks it's RUBBISH! Kendall sighs
with frustration at no one trusting her, but stands her ground. She
says Chris needs the help and it would be good for HER too -- it would
be a way for her to have a shot at doing something GOOD. Myrtle
smirks. Bianca watches. Kendall stares.
Myrtle strides across the room (and Bianca closes the door all the
way) and says she has a reputation for giving people a second chance,
but she is NOT a fool. She harshly tells Kendall to close the door on
her way OUT. She totters away. Kendall swears and starts to leave.
Bianca rushes into the room, though, and calls her name. [Bianca is
looking QUITE fetching today. It's as if, now that her character has
turned 18, she's "allowed" to act more mature and confident. Her
makeup might be different, too, but the change is very subtle.]
Kendall is surprised that Bianca was there. Bianca says it's a good
idea for Kendall to take care of Chris. Kendall points out that
Myrtle doesn't agree. Bianca says that's because no one trusts
Kendall. Kendall is skeptical that Bianca DOES trust her. Bianca
plops down and picks up a magazine, saying that Chris is tough, and
Kendall gives as good as she gets. Kendall is perplexed that Bianca
really thinks that. Bianca peers up from the magazine and says:
"Why? Do I have some reason to suck up to you?" [I'm telling you,
even her VOICE sounds different. I think the Eden Riegel is being
more HERSELF now, rather than little-girl-Bianca] Kendall says Myrtle
turned her down. Bianca oh-so-nonchalantly turns magazine pages and
says: "Yeah, I heard." Kendall hems and haws and finally manages to
ask what it would take for Bianca to help convince Myrtle to let
Kendall have a room there. Bianca stares, seeming to enjoy watching
Kendall be beholden to her.
PV HOSPITAL
Joe says David is right. Jake sits and tells Joe not to let David do
this to him. Joe says he wishes it hadn't happened this way, but it's
true -- the job has become too much for him [and Ruth is CONSTANTLY
craving sex]. He has to keep pushing himself all the time and Ruth
has been all over him about it [told ya ;-)]. Jake tells him to just
cut back, then, not step down. Joe says no, it's better for the
hospital and better for him this way. Palmer asks him if he's REALLY
serious about this. Joe says yes, he's thought long and hard about
it. He won't be recommending DAVID as his successor, and he's sorry
not to give more notice, but yes, he's resigning, effective
immediately. [Well THAT'S not very responsible! You can't give two
more weeks? Geez!] David makes a show of putting his papers away and
snapping his briefcase shut, saying: "I'll be expecting to hear from
the board ASAP. I think it'll be advantageous to everybody concerned
if I have a smooth transition of my new administration. Well, ladies
and gentlemen, it's been -- it's been a SLICE." He and his
perpetually frowning wife depart to the hallway. David grins like a
Cheshire cat. Anna runs her hands through her hair and huffs, trying
to relax after the ordeal. David holds her face in a hand and says
she is looking at the NEW CHIEF OF STAFF!!! She cautiously says it
seems that way. [No it doesn't -- who said HE had the job?] She says
it's unexpected, but she has to go take care of something. He is so
giddy he's practically skipping and wants to celebrate with his new
wife. She says she has to take care of some of her OWN business, then
leaves. David keeps grinning.
Meanwhile, back in the boardroom, Jake paces, then admonishes the
board, saying that if they accept Joe's resignation, he's out of
there. [Why are there only 4 board members?] The unidentified man
asks if that's a threat. Jake says it's damn WELL a threat and that
if David is made Chief of Staff, half the doctors in the hospital will
walk out. Palmer asks what else they can do. If Joe leaves is job,
then they need someone TONIGHT -- if not Joe, then who? Joe says
there IS another choice.
Liza sits in the tiny little waiting cubby and practically rips
through the pages of the Proteus issue of Tempo, building up an even
bigger head of steam as she glares at the nurse. She finally gets up
and stomps over. She pretends to be nice for a nanosecond and
apologizes for bugging them but maybe they don't understand who her
husband is and that he's a HUGE benefactor of the hospital [isn't SHE
the head of Chandler Enterprises, not to mention WRCW?]. Nurse
Elizabeth tells her that she knows who she is and is doing everything
she can to speed up the labwork. David walks up in time to overhear
Elizabeth say that it might help if Liza could tell her what she was
drugged with. Liza whines that she doesn't KNOW!! That's why she's
THERE, to find OUT! Elizabeth gives a brief smile of acknowledgement,
then rushes away from the crazy person. Apparently Elizabeth has
merely sneaked behind the nurses' station and come out the other side,
because now she's next to David and asks him if things went well in
there. David says it was better than he could have hoped for. He
asks what's going on with Liza, who is back at the cubbyhole again,
constantly jerking her butt-ugly gray jacket in nervous attempts to
adjust its fit. Elizabeth tells him about Liza's great tea caper and
says she's been driving them all CRAZY. David stares speculatively at
Liza. Elizabeth shoots Liza a look of mild contempt. Another nurse
walks out of the elevator and says Liza's results are back, and she's
CLEAN for drugs. David takes the results from her and says he'll take
care of it.
David walks over to Liza and calls her name to get her attention away
from jerking on her sleeve some more. She testily says she's getting
a test done and doesn't want to start anything with him. He tells her
she's clean. She gets up, frowning like Bela Lugosi, and snatches the
results from him. He carefully asks if there's anything he can do for
her. Liza: "Other than what you've done? I doubt it!" She turns
away and picks up her overcoat. He says he's been thinking about her
lately and was hoping they could get together for lunch, say early
next week. She stares. [They've definitely applied lip makeup to
make her mouth look excessively downturned -- unfortunately, it has a
slightly clownish effect] David smiles.
SOS
Leo walks over to Greenlee and asks if she's decided to go for a
second go-around of the pain game with Daddy-O the second she doesn't
have a boyfriend around to protect her. Greenlee crosses her arms and
scoffs at the idea of him EVER protecting her in either of the two
incarnations of their relationship. Leo crosses his own arms and
taunts: "Ohhhh, noooo, I never did ANYTHING to protect you, did I?"
She says she went through HELL because his freaking mother tried to
KILL her, and the only thing HE did was make her feel like SHE did
something wrong! Leo blinks rapidly and taps his foot, saying that's
an interesting way to look at it, since she chose JAKE! Greenlee says
she didn't CHOOSE Jake -- his psycho mother chose to bury her at SEA
with Jake! And after all that, what did Leo do? He dumped her! And
now he's going off on her about being with her own FATHER? He's
already out PARTYING! Leo shrugs and says: "Well, YOU'RE in love
with two people, so ..." Greenlee snaps that they've been broken up
all of about 2.5 minutes and he's already out trolling for dates! He
denies that that is what he is doing. She asks why, then, is the town
pariah at his side? Simone (arms also crossed) says: "HEY!" Leo:
"Hey, what about YOU? Your fiance says good-bye, your backup boy
takes a hike, and where's the first place you go? Back to the SCREW-
UP who made you what you are today! And you say that I'M hung up on
MY mother?" Roger gets up from his barstool to intercede. Leo
giggles nastily and says: "Oh, you've GOT to be --" Greenlee slaps
the SHIT out of him. She made an unbelievable connection with his
face, considering she's about two feet shorter than him. Leo grimaces
with pain. Simone gasps. Greenlee glares at him. [I call my son
into the room so he can watch the impressive slap in replay]
Leo works his tongue in his cheek, then turns around to compose
himself. Roger turns to face the other way and let the young'uns work
it out for themselves. Simone also steps away. Greenlee steps up
behind him and apologizes, but says he shouldn't have said that.
Greenlee: "I watched you choose your mother over me, over everyone
you cared about, even choose her over yourself. And you did it time
and again." Leo says his mother wasn't the problem, at least not all
of it. Greenlee: "MOST of it." Greenlee laments: "LOOK at us.
We're saying and doing things to each other that we'd NEVER thought
we'd say or do!" Leo turns to sit at a table and says they got angry
and it got out of control. Greenlee also seats herself and says:
"No. You gave Vanessa the benefit of the doubt so many times. And
EVERY time she broke your heart and EVERY time you went back for more.
But ME? I gave you all the love I had, and you went on to someone
else. And that still hurts even though it's not supposed to. I'm
supposed to be PAST it." [Huh? She JUST said they've barely been
broken up -- in what way is she supposed to be PAST it? It takes ME
longer than that to get over being cut off in traffic!] Leo glumly
says he knows. She softly says she is NOT past it, and she's got to
stop this because it's turning her into someone she doesn't like. If
he can't end it, she will. Leo's eyes tear up as he shakes his head
and says: "Just like that?" Greenlee: "Not just like that. You're
in my system, but I'll burn that off." Leo, eyes brimming, says:
"So you are done with me?" Greenlee, also tearing up, says: "I HAVE
to be. Please stay away from me, Leo. It's just the one last thing
that I ask of you. Help me let you go." Leo nods and blinks back
tears. Greenlee wipes away tears, then clops over to Roger to get her
coat. She says she'll call him later. They kiss. She stares at
Leo's back for a long while, wipes more tears, then leaves. Leo
stares at the wall for a while, then turns to look longingly at the
door. He looks very lost. [So who paid Roger's bail?]
MYRTLE'S HOUSE
Bianca says she doesn't buy it. Kendall helping Chris is not going to
buy any points with Ryan. Kendall makes wry faces, then admits she
had a moment of truth. She realized she had to go forth and do good.
She jokes that there might have been a little white light involved
(indicating with her fingers that the light is due to either a halo or
insanity). Bianca smiles and tells her not to believe her own press.
She wants people to approve and accept her, just like everyone else.
Kendall asks if that's what Bianca wants. Bianca: "All my life."
Kendall looks thoughtful, then gets up and walks over to sit next to
Bianca on the couch. She asks Bianca: "What was it like? Being in
love with someone that you knew Erica would freak out about? You and
Frankie must have had a really special relationship." Bianca turns to
look more closely at Kendall, who says: "Oh, was that the wrong thing
to say?" Bianca says no, it's just that, even if she finds someone
willing to talk about her and Frankie, people get weirded out because
Frankie died. Kendall shrugs and says she's not real sensitive. They
both chuckle. Kendall asks what Frankie was like -- her SISTER seems
real tough. Bianca says Frankie WAS tough, all attitude on the
outside, but INside, she was-- Kendall: "Mush?" [Bianca: "No, only
AFTER orgasms."] Bianca laughs and says yes. Frankie was really
gentle and really, REALLY vulnerable -- she's never met anyone who
needed to be taken care of as much as Frankie. Kendall assures Bianca
that Frankie came to the right place. Bianca: "ME?" Kendall:
"Don't YOU believe your own press EITHER." Bianca says she doesn't --
she's just surprised that somebody guessed that she's not poor,
helpless, fragile Bianca. [I guessed] Kendall asks if Frankie had
guessed. Bianca thinks she was starting to -- she was trying to make
her feel safe so that she would open up to her [must---stifle--]
Bianca wanted to see if she COULD -- she wanted that a LOT. Kendall
says she's sorry she never got that. Bianca thanks her.
Myrtle walks up and harshly asks if Kendall is still there and if
she's bothering Bianca. Bianca says no. She wants to talk to Myrtle
in private and asks Kendall to stick around. Before going into
another room with Bianca, Myrtle glares at Kendall and says: "I
forgot to lock up the silver." Kendall sighs. Alone in the room, she
wonders if it will work. Erica lets herself in the front door and,
startled, stares at Kendall, who stares back with a sinking feeling.
PV HOSPITAL
Anna walks into Chris' room and asks if he has any more feeling in his
legs. He laughs at her conversation starter and she ruefully says
she's not up for a chat either. She reminds him that he owes her that
Chief of Police job. He reminds HER that she wasn't particularly
cooperative during his investigation. She says that's because he kept
going after David, even though she told him it was ludicrous. They
banter about the semantics of her being right in the beginning or
later. She says she risked a lot, blah, blah, blah. He tells her
that if she keeps this up, he'll have to call the mayor and tell him
to pull the plug on the deal. Apparently he spoke to the mayor about
ten minutes ago. The mayor is going to call her and ask her to be
Chief of Police of Pine Valley. She grins with happiness. He tells
her to thank him now, which she does. She promises not to screw it
up. She hesitates and asks if he's going to give up on David now.
Chris rolls his eyes and head and asks why she keeps DEFENDING that
guy. She says she's not going to give up on him anytime soon. Chris
wonders why it's always the smart ones that get hooked. She warns him
to knock it off. More happy banter ensues as she heads for the door,
then leaves. Chris settles back, immediately dropping his happy
demeanor. He grabs the phone and dials 3223 [my observation], and
tells someone he wants to see him -- NOW. Because it's IMPORTANT,
that's why! He hangs up.
Outside the boardroom, Jake broods. Joe walks up and asks how he's
doing. Jake says this wasn't exactly how he wanted to see him go into
retirement after everything Joe has done and all his accomplishments,
all because of a lying, blackmailing--. Joe says it's for the best --
he can get some rest and get his strength back -- and it will make
Ruth VERY happy. Jake says Ruth would want him to put up a fight, and
he knows it! Joe says to ask her about THIS one and see what she has
to say. Joe: "Anyway, nobody lives forever, and I have a lot I want
to do. Besides, I haven't given up." Jake nods and asks what if this
doesn't work out. Joe assures him that it WILL. Palmer opens the
door and tells them that they are ready, and someone ought to get
David. Jake sighs heavily and says he'll do it. He walks away.
Meanwhile, Liza, now fiddling with her hair, says: "Soooo, now you
want to take me to lunch?" She walks away from him, making sure he
necklace is straight. He follows and says he thinks they can do a lot
for each other. She says she thinks he's lost his MIND. He asks her
to give it a chance -- they might be able to break tradition and
actually help one another for a change. Liza suddenly whips around
and leans over the counter of the nurses' station and snaps to the
busy nurses: "I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!" She stomps
over to the arriving elevator. She turns and glares at David, then
musters a miniscule amount of self-control to grit out: "You know, I
know this is probably not a possibility, but I would appreciate it if
you wouldn't mention the tests that I had done today." David: "I
would never breach a patient's confidentiality [ROTFLMAO!] -- ever.
So, about lunch -- can I call you?" Liza stares at him, looking like
a vision of doom. David rubs his jaw, but can't stop grinning over
his assumed new job. Jake walks in looking like he's about to bestow
a vision of doom upon David. He abruptly says the board asked him to
find him -- they're ready. He turns and leaves. David is STILL
grinning, even more so at the opportunity to get to Jake. Anna walks
up to David. He kisses her and says she's just in time. Anna: "Oh
... right." They re-enter the boardroom.
LOFT BUILDING
Greenlee walks through the lobby to the elevator and presses the
button. When the door opens, she comes face-to-face with Simone.
Greenlee sighs in annoyance and says: "The show at SOS wasn't enough
for you? You stalking me now?" Simone loftily [no pun intended]
informs her that she lives there. Greenlee: "Since when?" Simone:
"Today." Leo walks up, panting and carrying yet another box.
Greenlee asks what he's doing there. He shrugs, smiles ever so
slightly, and says he's moving in with Simone. Greenlee stares and
absorbs this new twist.
[Okay, we need to come up with a name for the loft building,
considering how much airtime it gets. It's late, and I don't HAVE a
suggestion at this point, but we should think on it]
PV HOSPITAL
Dr. Stannart enters Chris' room, having been summoned. Chris says he
knows that Erica Kane hired him; therefore, the doctor lied to him
about working for the Bureau. Dr. Stannart apologizes. He says he
wasn't comfortable doing it, but Ms. Kane insisted. Chris tells him
to forget about it -- just don't ever lie to him again. Dr. Stannart
gives him his word and they shake on it. Chris whips off the bedsheet
and says: "Now, you can tell me how to get the hell out of her on my
own two feet!"
MYRTLE'S HOUSE
Erica tells Kendall she came to see Bianca, so she can run along.
Kendall gets up and says that if she's going to go around barking
orders, she needs to remember to bring her whip and chain. Erica
glares at her and informs her that she's already told Chris about Dr.
Stannart, just in case Kendall was thinking about stabbing her in the
back. Kendall throws up her hand, rolls her eyes, and says:
"Whatever!" Bianca re-enters the room and Erica gushes at her.
Bianca turns to Kendall. She says that she talked it over with Myrtle
and that, if it's okay with Bianca, it's okay with her. She dangles
housekeys out to Kendall. Erica tilts her head, pretends to be
happily interested and asks what's going on. She dips and brightly
smiles. Bianca says Kendall is moving in. She and Kendall look at
each other and merrily laugh as Bianca says: "My sister and I are
going to live together!" They both turn to Erica and smile. Kendall
smirks and tilts her head.
PV HOSPITAL
Anna and David walk in to hear the good news. Palmer says he has an
announcement to make. The board has come to a decision. They have
accepted Joe's resignation with regret, but with gratitude for all the
years of hard work and dedication to this hospital. Palmer: "We are
now anticipating the same service, same dedication from ..." Palmer
looks up at David and gloats: "His son." David's head whips around
and his smile disappears as he looks around the table with unhappy
bewilderment. Palmer: "David, won't you help us welcoming Dr. Jake
Martin, our new Chief of Staff." Joe looks quite satisfied and turns
to look behind him at Jake, who is standing with his arms crossed,
looking like Mr. Clean. He levels a take-THAT-and-shove-it-up-your-
arrogant-ASS look at David as their eyes meet. David's lower lip is
now trying to work it's way off his face.

In the boardroom, Jake tells David: "The board has requested I hire
you back." David steps forward and snorts: "I'M going to work for
YOU?"
At Myrtle's Kendall asks Bianca: "Are you using me, Bianca?"
As a disconcerted Opal looks on, Erica sits in Greenlee's office and
impersonates her on the phone: "Yes. This is Greenlee Smythe. How
may I help you?"
In the loft lobby, Leo leans down to a hurt and confused Greenlee and
says: "The old, irresponsible, selfish Leo is BACK!"
