Friday Update November , 2001
PREVIOUSLY ON ALL MY CHILDREN
At PVH Greenlee tells Jake: "I was happy with Vanilla till I met you.
You're my Rocky Road, Jake. I don't want to give you up." Laura
eavesdrops as she lurks behind a magazine.
At PVH Jack tells Chris: "Bianca and Erica are material witnesses to
a homicide. There's no way I can leave them alone together."
At SOS Hayley confronts Mateo, yelling: "What is going on with you
because if you don't tell me, I will find out on my own!" Mateo hugs
her tightly and quietly says: "I want you to hide and you wait for
me!"
CHANDLER TUNNELS (I think)
Hayley, freaked out by noises she hears as she waits, yells that she's
going to call the police. Mateo streaks up and slaps a hand over her
mouth, telling her that it's just him. Mateo walks around lighting
candles in the tunnels (which we all know have been filled in since a
collapse long ago, but the writers don't know that). Hayley rants
about being shut out as he talks in riddles about being safe and not
being overheard. Hayley wants to know if he's having an affair. [Why
would he need to go to a secure location to tell her THAT?] Mateo:
"It's worse. Much, MUCH worse."
In a tiny voice, Hayley asks what could be worse than a betrayal of
the baby and her. [Let's see: being kidnapped in a foreign country
at 15; being kidnapped by a psychotic pretending to be your aunt; your
rapist, thieving husband deliberately turning you into an alcoholic
and trying to rape/destroy you and who is subsequently killed by a
pregnant psychotic; your mother having sex with your husband on your
wedding night while you wait in the car; your husband trying to kill
your mother with vodka; being kidnapped, drugged and raped by a
"buddy" of your husband; almost being murdered by carbon dioxide
poisoning; having your crowded place of business blown to bits,
killing two people; almost dying in a fire after being knocked out
while trying to help your psychotic aunt after she killed ANOTHER
person; getting liver poisoning from a lead-based tattoo inflicted upon
you by yet another kidnapper; finding out your husband had not only
been previously married, but that he has a child; your mother trying
to sleep with yet another husband; strangling your mother and having
your father dump her body overboard; developing a split personality
and BECOMING your own mother, consequently picking up unsavory men in
bars and being a danger to oneself and others; being in a car accident
while pregnant; etc. Yeah, I guess Mateo having sex with a trampy
waitress really WOULD be the WORST thing that could ever happen to
her.] Mateo says he would NEVER cheat on her -- he would sooner end
his LIFE; however, there are certain things that she CAN'T know. She
asks if it's because it will ruin their lives if she knows, then
reminds him that it's not just them anymore -- they have the baby to
consider. He says that's all the more reason to keep his mouth shut.
She says they have to let each other in 100% or they might as well
pack it in. He says that will only put her and Lorenzo in MORE
danger. She insists they can protect their baby. If their roles were
reversed, what would he expect -- no -- what would he DEMAND of her?
Mateo: "Total honesty." She tells him to bring it on, then, because
they are in this together. He quietly says that they are up to their
necks this time. She says the sooner he tells her what it is, the
sooner they can start digging their way out. He looks at her in
misery.
Having explained everything while we were busy watching other scenes,
Mateo now explains how if he coughs, Proteus immediately calls and
asks how his cold is. This is what Mateo's gotten his family into.
Does Hayley hate him? She takes his hand and says she could never
hate him -- he was systematically targeted and trapped and his only
crime was trying to keep his family safe. He says he was also SCARED
to tell her. Hayley: "Scared I was going to beat you up?" [LOL!]
He says no -- he knows that having Lorenzo rehashed some old issues
for her. She guesses he means the part about her mother's lack of
maternal instincts. He says yeah, but now it's clear to her and the
rest of the world that she's an AMAZING mother. He has the best
family than anyone's ever been blessed with. She says they ARE
blessed and takes his hand, caressing her face with it and kissing it.
It's a very loving moment. [I start to wonder if they're going to get
it on right there in the tunnels -- there ARE candles everywhere,
after all.]
Mateo says that now Hayley knows there's no reason to be jealous of
Simone anymore. Hayley isn't so sure, but says that's yesterday's
news. Now they have to figure out how to get Mateo out of Proteus'
little organization before he gets killed. Mateo says he has Proteus
hooked, for now. He's doing a good job for him, so Proteus is happy.
Hayley jumps up and says SHE's not happy! She wants him out NOW!
Mateo says that if Proteus was taking resignations, he wouldn't BE
there. Hayley wishes he had seen Proteus' face so he could ID him and
have him thrown in jail. Mateo says he enjoys playing God. Mateo:
"He's, like, personally challenged by transforming us mere mortals. I
mean, if you're an upstanding citizen, he wants to break you. He
wants to take you over to the other side of the law." Mateo says he's
learned that he can win this and take him down.
Hayley says Proteus is on a power trip. Mateo says it's more than
that -- he's got this sick need to break people and train them.
Hayley: "Well, he's evil and twisted and so he's not to be trifled
with, which is why I really hate seeing your relentless crusader look
on your face." Mateo says that's his weakness -- Proteus thinks he
can train ANYONE. He's going to be the best lieutenant Proteus has
ever drafted. They conclude that in order for this ego-maniac to
believe that Mateo has gone over to the dark side, everybody in town
has to believe it. [I believe it already] They declare their love
for each other. It will be difficult, but worth it. They kiss and
caress hands.
PV HOSPITAL
Leo frets about Bianca being so pale when he found her that he thought
she was dead. Greenlee: "It's a wonder she ISN'T dead! And if
Bianca wanted to work out some kinks, whatever happened to spinning or
yoga? I mean, what demento perches on top of 1,000 pounds of
horseflesh and gallops through the woods in the middle of the night?"
Leo wonders if she had heard about Frankie and that's why she was
riding so late. Vanessa runs in, very upset about Mary Frances, the
poor misguided child. Leo tells her to save the high drama for Aunt
Gwynnie -- he only called her over so SHE could call her. Vanessa
says she tried, but Gwynnie is out galavanting around and that's not
the kind of message one leaves on a machine -- she and Gwynnie aren't
close, but she's not a hateful, vengeful person! Leo again tells her
to spare him the dramatics and asks if she knows Frankie was murdered.
She says she heard Bianca was also brought in and worries that the two
events are connected. Leo [who is being a real snot, considering the
situation] says: "Yeah. Yeah, Bianca's horse shot your niece and
then threw Bianca hoping to kill her, too." Jake comes out of
Bianca's room and Leo asks to see her. Jake brusquely tells him
(vaguely including Greenlee) to come back and see her tomorrow because
Erica and Jack are in there right now. He ignores Greenlee and rushes
away. This bums rush is greeted with raised eyebrows in Jake's
direction by Greenlee, Vanessa and Leo. Leo bends over, takes
Greenlee's hand and invites her to leave. She says they don't have to
leave because Jake says so. Leo says he want her to come with him to
start a new life. They happily skip out.
In Bianca's room, Chris and Jack sternly watch as Erica sits next to
the bed petting Bianca's hair and cooing over her. Bianca is dazed
and confused from her fall, and Erica tells her she doesn't have to
say a word, just rest. Without further ado, Erica gently tells Bianca
that Frankie is dead. Bianca has apparently been practicing in a
mirror, because nows she's making those Norma Rae/Gloria Marsh eyeball
ping-ponging eyes. Erica fervently tells her that she doesn't have to
do anything -- Erica will take care of EVERYTHING -- anything Bianca,
wants or needs Erica will get and Erica will DO anything for her
[Erica's eyes are also ping-ponging in an effort to keep up, but she's
no match for Bianca]. Erica: "Bianca, you are such a wonderful,
wonderful girl, and you have your whole, brilliant life ahead of you!
Please don't let this tragic accident rob you of your life!" Bianca,
in the meantime, is trying to absorb the fact that Frankie is dead.
Jack steps forward and says yes, she is and asks Bianca if she can
tell them anything about that. Erica, still petting Bianca, turns
slightly and says not to DARE say another WORD! She then turns fully
and stares at Jack with cold warning.
In the waiting area, Vanessa sidles up to Jake and comments on how
wonderfully compassionate doctors are, giving a glowing review of
their bedside manner over the ages, compared to mere mortals like her.
He's writing in a file and distractedly tells her they do what they
can. She says it's fallen upon HER to inform her sister of Frankie's
demise and fishes for information in solving the crime, the better to
offer solace to her sister and soften the impact. He says she should
talk to the DA. She says Jackson is in with Bianca and Erica and, no
doubt, has his hands full -- does JAKE know if them being there has
any connection to Frankie's death? Jake says he's not the liaison
between the police and City Hall and tells her to ask someone else.
He walks away. Vanessa huffs and bats her eyes, then says
contemptuously says to herself: "So much for bedside manner!" She
reaches for her cell phone and walks away.
Jack roughly pulls Erica off to the side and warns her not to
interfere. She says she was talking to HIM, not to Bianca. She
lambastes him for grilling Bianca the second she wakes up and hears
this shattering news about Frankie. Her daughter's physical and
emotional well-being takes precedence over everything, including his
political agenda! It is way too soon for questioning. He tells her
to give him a little credit. Bianca starts moaning Frankie's name and
Erica rushes back to her side and immediately begins an attempt to
brainwash/excuse Bianca, all the while petting her hair: "Bianca.
Sweetheart. Honey. Oh, honey. Frankie -- Frankie is gone. And I'm
sure that it was just a terrible accident. And you know what I think?
I think maybe it had something to do with that boy she was with --
maybe something he said, maybe something she did." Bianca: "Boy?"
Erica: "Yeah. Yes, the boy she was with. Maybe they fought. Maybe
they really FOUGHT." Bianca can't remember. Erica tells her to just
rest and it will probably come back to her later, but for now she just
has to accept it and put it behind her. Bianca tearfully looks at
her, still trying to absorb everything. Erica: "Oh, sweetheart,
you'll never know how I regret that I was right about Frankie!" Jack
decides that that is enough and pulls Erica way, saying he wants her
out of there. Erica insists Bianca NEEDS her. Jack doesn't think so,
not just now. Bianca looks at Jack and pitifully begs him to take
Erica out of there. Chris walks up to Erica and holds her, gently
telling her it might be better, just for the moment. Erica can't
believe Bianca wants her out. Bianca turns away from her. Erica
continues to call Bianca's name and tries to get back to the bed as
Chris hauls her out of the room. Bianca, in a world of hurt, watches
them leave.
Out in the waiting area, Erica rants and raves at both Chris and Jack
for keeping her from Bianca. Chris says Bianca is distraught. Erica
agrees, and that's exactly why she's going right back in there! Jack
forbids it. He wants Bianca's memories to come back naturally and
doesn't want anyone tampering with the witness' memory. Erica is
outraged and says that WITNESS is her DAUGHTER! Jack, failing to see
the irony of having had a long, stormy, on-again/off-again romantic
relationship with his former sister-in-law (not to mention former
client) and a loving, fatherly relationship with his paternal niece
(who, as a child, set an effigy of him on fire, starting with the
crotch), says: "Well, I'm afraid at this point, that relationship is
immaterial." Erica rips into him: "Oh, I see -- it's immaterial! We
don't MATTER to you anymore! You are no longer my FRIEND, you are no
longer my daughter's loving UNCLE! No, you are just simply Jackson
Montgomery, CUTTHROAT D.A., LUSTING after somebody to PROSECUTE! Jack
says he works for all the citizens of PV, not just an elite few, and
he assumes THEY want the murderer brought to justice. Does she?
Erica says of COURSE she does. Her eyes dart around, though, before
she adds: "What an ABSURD question!" Chris steps in and tells Jack
this is neither the time nor place for questions -- Erica is not on
the witness stand. Jack agrees. Not YET she isn't. Erica is
insulted that Jack is somehow implying that she might be involved with
this girl's shooting. Chris tells her that's ENOUGH, then turns to
Jack and tells him to back off. Jack stares.
Jack tells Chris it's very simple. Chris says yes, he doesn't want
Erica talking to Bianca until she's been deposed -- Jack has already
painted that picture. Opal rushes up in a tizzy, having returned from
her Mah Jong tournament to find PV's finest [snort] crawling all over
the place in between yellow crime scene tape. She's living in a crime
scene and Frankie is dead! (Opal looks LOVELY -- her hair is burnished
blonde and softly curled, pulled back slightly on one side with an
elegant barrette; her makeup is very toned down and she's wearing
relatively simple, moderately sized 3/8" width hoop earrings. She's
not even WEARING a necklace! Poor Bianca -- how is she doing! Erica
says that Bianca is in a room. Maybe OPAL can convince Jack to let
her go in and find OUT how Bianca is doing since he's BANISHED her
from her daughter's bedside! Jack and Chris both try to get Erica to
just let it go. Erica, of course, ignores them and informs Opal that
Bianca went riding and was thrown from her horse and has a concussion.
She dramatically says that Jackson, out of some misguided sense of
public service, seems to think that justice is better served by
keeping Erica from her. Jack interjects that they are both witnesses
and doesn't want Bianca's memories of the event influenced. Erica:
"There! You see? He's impossible!" Opal says that a mother's love
takes precedence over ANY judicial hoo-hah! Jack says that's not so,
according to his official judicial hoo-hah rulebook. A man walks in
and Jack walks over to talk to him. Opal asks about Bianca and Erica
says she's conscious, but has some memory loss. Opal thanks TPTB that
Petey is on a sleepover until tomorrow. [He's now Jamie's SORAS'd age
-- does she still arrange playdates for him?] Erica: "Well, I hope
you're better at explaining to him than I was to Bianca."
Jack is talking with someone (a police detective?) named Miguel about
the crime. Jack tells him that apparently Frankie was with a boy
before the murder and Bianca had walked in on them. Miguel starts
toward Bianca's room to go find an ID on the boy. Jack stops him and
tells him to take it easy on Bianca; not because she's his niece, but
because the poor girl's been through a hell of a lot. He adds that he
thinks Erica might be trying to run interference. One theory might be
maternal concern, but ... Miguel guesses Jack has another theory.
[Hello? Didn't this guy JUST come from the scene? Wouldn't he have
heard about Erica sitting there with a gun?] Jacks says yes. He asks
that Miguel just monitor Bianca's progress for the moment. Miguel
agrees and says they'll chat when she's able. He walks away.
Jack walks back over to Erica & company and she assumes he's changed
his mind and will let her see Bianca now. He says no, he wants her to
come downtown for questioning. She can't believe he's SERIOUS! He
tries to persuade her that she might as well get it over with, and
then it will be out of the way and not hanging over her head when
Bianca is ready to see her. Erica insists she can't LEAVE!!! Chris
says maybe it's better if she does. Opal tells Jack that SURELY he
can delay playing 20 questions with Erica for a day or so, right? He
tells her it's a MURDER, not a game show. He advises Erica to bring
her (shakes his head at the preposterousness of it) LAWYER with her.
Jack leaves. Hmmm, Miguel is gone and Jack is gone -- who's going to
keep her away from Bianca now?] Chris tries to convince her it's a
good idea to go, and Opal assures her that she'll stay there with
Bianca and take good care of her. Opal walks over to gaze at Bianca
through the windows. Erica turns, then stumbles in a moment of light-
headedness. It's unclear if it's faux or real. Chris says he has her
back and she says she probably needs more than company. She summons
her reserves and says she's okay and thinks she can do this now. They
leave, arm-in-arm, as Miguel watches.
L&L'S CONDO
Leo and Greenlee walk in. Greenlee is clearly creeped out by being
there and says they are NOT starting a new life in the condo he and
Laura shared. He says no, he's just getting his stuff. She discerns
that something is wrong and asks him about it. Leo sums it up quite
nicely: "Uh -- well, the short list is my cousin was just gunned
down, my best friend is nearly killed falling off a horse, and I just
wasted the last, I don't know, five or six months in a marriage with
the wrong person. You tell me." She says it's not like he gave Laura
the best years of his life. He says the point is that there's no
guarantee, we could all die next week. She asks him to try to be a
little more upbeat. He says the point is that they have to make the
most of every precious moment. It's not like they're guaranteed life
or happiness or anything else. Greenlee: "You and I have BOTH!"
Leo: "Yes, we do. And we're going to grab every SECOND!" He swears
he'll never take her for granted ever again. She smiles brilliantly
and says: "No one's ever loved me like you do. You want to be with
me." Leo, not realizing the subtext of that statement, assures her:
"More than anything!" She suggest they get packing -- she'll gather
up all his yummy clothes. [Really, bringing your new love to help
pack up to leave one's current lovenest is the height of bad taste,
not to mention a critical plot point for upcoming revenge issues] She
asks where his Italian loafers are. He points to the hall closet.
Leo opens a drawer and pulls out a piece of paper. He wonders what
the hell it is and exclaims: "No WONDER why everything got so screwed
up!" Greenlee stares.
Looking at the paper, Greenlee reminds him (and us) that she's already
seen his heartfelt good-bye letter to Laura. He took it from her and
tore it up, remember? They deduce that Laura glued it back together.
He says he threw it away -- TWICE, and it's not even what he wrote!
It says "I'm leaving you for Greenlee." He WROTE "Please don't THINK
I'm leaving you for Greenlee." They guess Laura thought he was
dumping her for Greenlee, and that must explain why she went so crazy.
Greenlee says that still doesn't excuse her looney-tunes antics.
Greenlee: "I mean, we're lucky she didn't chain you to a PIT out in
the woods somewhere!" Leo: "Yeah, well, this place was cold and damp
enough -- believe me." He can't believe he actually fell for all of
Laura's lies. He vows to pay Brooke what he owes her and forget
everything that happened there -- and never happened. She asks then
what? He says they'll take off and go to every country, every city
that they ever wanted to go to. They're going to eat every food,
they're going to smell every flower, they're going to take in every
DELIGHT that life has to offer. She asks where they'll start. He
pulls her close and says it doesn't matter -- they don't need
schedules or itineraries -- they don't need ANYTHING. Leo:
"Greenlee, you make my life make sense. You make me feel so alive!"
He bends and they kiss passionately. The door slams. Why it's Laura!
She looks a little peeved.
PVPD
Erica and Chris walk in. Erica seems unsure of herself. The station
is swarming with cops, but only one person is being booked. Most of
the cops stare in awe at Erica. C&E are ushered into a room where
Jack is sitting behind a desk, wearing glasses, which tells us that he
is all business (shouldn't the COPS be the ones to take statements?].
Jack informs them that the forensics report (pretty damn quick report
at that) states that the gun Erica was holding is NOT the gun that
killed Frankie. Erica can't imagine why that would be. Jack
continues. Oddly enough, the bullet that was retrieved from Frankie
[pretty damn quick autopsy] is of the same caliber of a gun that is
registered to Chris. Chris is taken aback. He stares ambiguously at
Erica. Erica looks ambiguously guilty.
Jack asks an officer to escort Chris to his car to retrieve his
weapons. Chris asks what's the hurry. After some macho posturing on
both sides over a warrant, Chris says he'll save them the trouble
because his gun is missing. He says that on the drive over he
discovered that his backup gun was missing from his glove compartment.
More posturing ensues about Chris filing a missing weapon report,
which Chris plans to do as a law-abiding citizen. Jack asks who else
has the keys to his car. Chris protests that Jack is focusing only on
CHRIS' gun when there are hundreds of registered and unregistered guns
that could have been used. Erica interrupts and says SHE has the only
other key to the vehicle.
A few scenes later, the officer returns and says the glove compartment
was empty, just as Chris had said. [What, no registration, maps, user
manual or gloves? Hmmm, now that I think about it, I've never ONCE
even CONSIDERED putting my gloves in the glove compartment -- no
wonder I keep losing them in the car.] Frustrated, Jack takes off his
glasses and rubs his eyes hard enough to flatten them, saying that the
gun, therefore, may or may not be missing. Chris picks up his keys
and guesses they can go now since they don't have enough to hold his
client. Jack says he's got a real MESS and Chris's "client" is right
in the middle of it. Erica asks if Jack is going to arrest her. She
requests some time to speak privately to her lawyer. Jack
melodramatically gets up and leaves the room, staring meaningfully at
both of them. After Jack leaves, Erica paces across the room, then
turns and says: "I did the right thing, Chris." She looks down, then
quickly looks up with confident strength. Chris says he loves her and
will do his best to get her out of this, but she's got to WANT him to
help her. Does she?
PV HOSPITAL
Vanessa peers into Bianca's room, groping the door as if she's looking
for a secret latch. She starts to push it open, but Opal grabs her
from behind and orders her to stay away from the door. Vanessa rubs
her neck and suggests that Opal pop unto her own salon and have her
talons filed down. Opal says they're better to scratch her eyes out
with. Vanessa says she's just had a very serious loss and isn't up
for combat at the moment. Opal says Vanessa didn't give a flying fig
for Frankie when she was around, so she can just turn off those
crocodile tears around HER. Vanessa protests that her very first
thoughts when she heard about Mary Frances was how poor, tender-
hearted Bianca was taking it, and she wanted to find out how she's
doing. Opal says Vanessa DEVOURS tender hearts for breakfast and
won't be getting anywhere NEAR Bianca unless she wants to go through
HER. Vanessa: "OH!! What a HORRIFYING thought!" Opal tells her to
just bring it on and "MAKE MY DAY!!!" Vanessa says she just wanted
more info about what happened -- maybe she should look at the resume
of one Miss Erica Kane. Opal jumps to defend the besmirching of her
best gal-pal. Vanessa: "Did I misunderstand? Hasn't Erica attempted
murder before?" Opal tells Vanessa she'd better run before she
decides to scratch the homicidal itch she's giving her. Vanessa
laughs loudly at the absurdity, but skedaddles, just the same. More
to herself, Opal follows up with: "You crafty SOOOW!" [That last
seems to have more to do with the Palmer/Vanessa/Opal thing than the
case at hand]
Opal spies Miguel and is happy to see him back. She begs to be let in
to see Bianca. She says Bianca is in there all alone and must be
frightened to death over everything that's happened, including her
mother being dragged off to the hoosegow by Jack. She must be crying
her eyes out thinking she's all alone and unloved. Opal suggests
he'll get his story out of her a whole lot faster if he lets her go in
and sooth Bianca's nerves a little. He relents (and appears to be
admiring Opal's warmth and integrity) and says she DOES make sense and
she can see Bianca as long as he's with them. She joyfully goes into
the room with Miguel at her heels. Opal lovingly asks Bianca how
she's doing. Bianca is pale and crying and says she can't remember
anything. Opals says it's okay, but Bianca wails that it's NOT okay
-- Frankie's DEAD! Opal hugs her and Bianca clings to her.
L&L'S CONDO
Laura nonchalantly walks over to put her coat and keys down, saying
it's a good thing she came in when she did; otherwise she would have
interrupted them in the act. [Why was she released from the hospital
in the middle of the night?] Greenlee: "Hmmm. We weren't about to
do the deed, Laura. Not that you'd recognize genuine lovemaking."
Leo says he just came by to pick up some of their things. [THEIR
things? What would GREENLEE have there to pick up, besides Leo?]
Laura says she knew he would have to do that sometime -- she just
didn't think she'd have to WATCH. Greenlee suggests she go see an
nice, upbeat PG-rated movie. Laura says Greenlee can't hurt her now -
- she's been trashed on a nationwide TV show. Greenlee says no one
with an IQ over 80 ever WATCHES that trash. Laura tells Leo he's
smart and not to let Greenlee fool him. He suggests they don't make
this worse than it already is. Laura gets a little agitated and says
Leo has NO IDEA. She closes her mouth rather than continue. Greenlee
looks a little worried. Leo asks what's wrong and Greenlee tries to
distract him by telling him not to waste his pity on Laura's pathetic
BID for sympathy and attention. THAT DOES IT! Laura narrows her eyes
and yells: "YOU BITCH!!!" She launches herself, talons out, at
Greenlee, but Leo manages to keep them apart.
Leo yells at them both to knock it off. They both talk over each
other and him, pointing fingers. He says to stop the blamefest --
they're ALL responsible! Rather than just come out and say she heard
Greenlee tell Jake she doesn't want to lose him, Laura blathers on and
on about Leo being an innocent and how Greenlee is deceiving him, etc.
She says she knows something HE doesn't -- something Greenlee has
neglected to tell him. Greenlee looks penetratingly at Laura, trying
to figure out what she knows.
Greenlee: "Delusional -- another shrink concept you should explore,
Laura. I'll start with your sweaters." [I thought she meant Laura's
sweaters, but she was actually referring to packing Leo's clothes -- I
like my first interpretation better, though] Laura: "Disillusioned -
- that's what Leo will be once he finds out your secret!" As Greenlee
watches with a grim, hunted look on her face, Leo asks Laura not to
make this worse -- she says Greenlee has THAT covered. Laura: "If
Leo trusts you to love him and only him, he's making the biggest
mistake of his life. True or false, Greenlee?" Leo stares at both
of them. Greenlee stares defensively at Laura.
PVPD
Out in the main room, Jack asks someone to get him a printout of
something. Vanessa walks up to him and says she believes she can help
him find out who murdered her niece. In fact, she KNOWS who did it.
Back in the room, Erica says Chris says the strangest things. Of
COURSE she knows he'll help her. He says that she has to stop LYING
then, right NOW! Then maybe, MAYBE he can get her out of this.
Jack pours himself a cup of coffee and tells Vanessa he'll gladly
accept any and all tips [20% is customary] if they are genuine, but he
will not act upon unfounded rumors [well how do you know they are
unfounded if you don't investigate them?]. Vanessa says she was
THERE, as well as Chris Stamp, when Erica received a phone call from
Mary Frances telling her that Bianca had discovered her in bed with a
boy and then hysterically run out. Erica became absolutely livid in
defense of her daughter, and that's when she said she would KILL Mary
Frances. Jack looks thoughtfully upset as he factors in this new
information.
Erica asks Chris why she would lie to him. Chris: "Force of habit."
He GETS that she's trying to protect Bianca. Erica feigns ignorance.
He tells her not to play dumb. Chris: "Look, if we don't approach
this as a team, as equals, then you don't have a prayer. Now, we both
know how many sets of keys there are to the limo. There's yours,
there's mine, and there's BIANCA'S. Now, who else had motive,
opportunity, and the means to shoot Frankie?" Erica, determined and
righteous, says: "_I_ did. _I_ killed her." [Ooh, didn't see THAT
one coming ;-)]

At the Tad Martin house, JR tells him: "Mom's right. It's too late
for you and for anything you have to say."
At the PVPD, Miguel asks Jack: "You going to give Ms. Kane a heads-
up?" Jack: "Warn her that we're going to search her premises? No."
In the investigation room at the PVPD, Chris says to Erica: "You're
telling me that this was premeditated."
At the condo, Laura tells Leo: "She's already looking over your
shoulder." Leo: "At who?" Laura: "Jake." Greenlee looks busted.
